The Seasonal Slump?

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

By Ginger Marks Everyone who has ever been in sales has heard it said that the holidays are the down time of the year. That is the reason that many businesses close for the season. Some will close for a couple of days while others close for the entire two weeks between Christmas and New Years Days. I have even heard of businesses closing for the entire holiday season beginning Thanksgiving and lasting until Valentines Day. Now that is what I call Death Valley Days. Do you agree? Do you allow yourself and your business to succumb to this mindset? Do you close down the shop and invariably end up losing business because you believe in the seasonal slump? I beg to differ. I believe that there is NO Seasonal Slump! OK, pick yourself back up off the floor. Shake the wax out of your ear, you didnt hear me wrong. I did say there is NO SEASONAL SLUMP! Bear with me for a minute or two and I promise I will tell you why I so resolutely deny this mindset. How can I even begin to form those words? To begin with I believe, as in life, time is what you make of it. If you tell yourself it is going to be slower than molasses in January then that is what you will get. However, if you go into the season with the intention of making it the most profitable you have seen in decades AND you take the action to make it so it will be so! Times have changed. There are new rules that have taken root. This has become the season of promotion. Now is the time to promote your product or service in ways that have double the impact. Double the impact? Yes double! First you send out your initial campaign via advertising or mailing and when it is over you offer a second wave. This second promotional wave cost you nearly nothing. Make use of the addresses you gained from the first promotional run and you can easily target interested consumers with a discount on the item they initially showed an interest in. Now hows that for making your advertising dollar pull double duty? Words like final offer and deep discount will definitely make your interested consumer sit up and take notice. Another truly unique marketing opportunity that gains additional impact this season is charity functions. I recommend that you could align yourself with a charity. This type of marketing has even more impact on your consumer than they will admit. This time of year news reporters are seeking out these types of stories. When you align yourself and your business in charitable ways it places your business in the fortunate position to allow you to get free publicity through multiple media streams. I said allow here because you still have to let the media know what you are up to so the story can be picked up. I am sure you have noticed not a few large corporations take advantage of this seasonal marketing tactic. Why shouldnt you follow suit? What is stopping you and your business from taking advantage of this strategy? Are you afraid because you dont know how to write? Hire a press release writer? Are you not sure of what to say or how to get your press release in the hands of the media? Again, hire a press release writer. The minimal expense you incur will be well worth the cost if you hire a writer that has proven results. Dont be afraid to ask for confirmation of the results from previous releases. Any good press release writer will have at least one or two happy customers that can share stories of being called or having their story picked up by one news source or another. We have just scratched the surface as to how you can effectively market your business this holiday season. I am sure you will agree, now is not the time to sit back but to stand up and get noticed! Happy Holiday Marketing Days are just around the bend. Quick Start Weight Loss For A Man

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

By Brett Nordin Weight loss for man isn’t really too different then weight loss for a woman. When it comes down to it, all of the same things are entailed, it’s just guys usually have different habits then the ladies. What we are going to talk about right now are the few things that you can start doing that will increase your success level for weight loss. Bad habits will have to die hard in order to succeed in weight loss for a man. Most of us know the habits I am talking about, but for those who don’t, I will list a couple off as examples. Fast food lunches instead of home made lunches, and another is drinking beer. Now, I’m not saying you need to cut them out all together, just try and limit them. A way to help limit the habits is having better alternatives around. Like I said above, pack a lunch for work, if you have one made there will be no reason to go get fast food. Usually a lot of our unhealthy choices come from not being prepared and organized. This brings us to our next topic, be organized. No, this doesn’t mean that if you have a clean organized home you will lose weight. What I mean is that having stuff written down and getting certain things prepared will help you succeed. Have the health and fitness related things that you want accomplished written down on paper. If you are going to make lunches for yourself everyday in the week, make sure and be prepared enough to have all the food you will need to make those lunches. You are probably thinking, well this stuff is easy. The truth is that weight loss for a man is easy. In order to make it work though, you need to be consistent. Which takes us to our last point, stay committed and positive. You may not see results within a week, don’t get discouraged. If you stay committed and keep a positive mind the results will come. Use these simple concepts and you will find yourself on the road to good health and feeling better. There will be days where you feel you need junk food, or you think that eating healthy is too hard. Days like those are where you need to take control and follow through with what you want to accomplish and achieve. As said before, weight loss for a man is simple, stay positive and you will see the results you are looking for. The majority of all people over look the final thing I would like to share. Again, it is something very simple, but can also affect the weight loss for a man. Water! Try and drink your daily body requirements of water. Your body will thank you for it. Superficial Churches

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

By Corbin Wright Have you ever sat in church and wondered with all your church activities over the years, whether you have really grown in Christ or not? Have you really matured over the years since you became active in your own church? I started to become active in my church in 1958 just after my marriage to my first wife. I basically sat there taking in all the surroundings, and absorbing all that was fed to me along the way and becoming more and more active in church activities. I became a Deacon, an Elder, a Treasurer, and Chairman of many committees along the way. But after about ten years of this, I felt something was missing. I felt that there was something superficial about this congregation. We would talk about the weather, about what we did last week, and maybe about what we felt about other people. But we never seemed to talk about personal stuff, about what we felt about ourselves to each other, or how we really felt about other people and empathetically communicating this directly to them. In other words, we didn’t seem to be moving in our growth. So I decided to do something about this. I wrote a personal confessional in the church newsletter using language that one doesn’t normally use in a church. The minister was new and wanted to see the church grow, but was inexperienced as to the possible repercussions of the journey I was about to take. Well, this blew the roof off the church when this publication came out. So many people were quite angry with me. In fact when I was planning to move down to Argentina 10 years later, a community leader who was helping us sell some of our furniture, and who had nothing to do with our church, said to me “Oh, you’re the one who caused all those problems in that church.”. So the word got out even among those in our neighborhood who were not even connected with our church, that something was happening there. In any case, many were upset with me, but those who actually knew me applauded me, because they found themselves growing within themselves as a result. They told me so. At the same time I helped initiate a growth group in our church where we could share our own personal feelings about various things. Whoever wanted to belong to this group could. This group proved to be quite helpful to a number of those who joined. One thing I learned while in this group though which is very important for the Church to consider. And that is, there are two basic reasons why people come to church: 1) THEY WANT TO GROW or 2) THEY WANT TO FIND ACCEPTANCE AS TO WHO THEY REALLY ARE. And this was the place that they felt might give them this satisfaction. But what has this got to do with Superficial churches? I’ve discovered that since I did my thing many years ago, I have continued to do my thing, whether I’m on the Board or not, in the most effective and comprehensive way I can envision, if something disturbs me with what’s happening within the church. If nothing changes as a result, that’s OK. I know I did my thing and as a consequence I never notice whether there’s any Superficiality in the church or not. A Biographical Sketch I was born in New York City in 1931, grew up on Long Island, graduated from Roanoke Collegein Virginia with a BA in Political Science, and from New York Theological Seminary with a Mastersin Religious Education. I became a committed Christian in 1958, and after a number of years becamea committed Ecumenical Christian. I worked as an accountant in various companies for about 25 years in New York City, then moved down to Argentina and worked for about 20 years as a Business English conversationalist teacher with some of the top managers. My greatest positive life-changing experience occurred in the early 70’s when I became very active for about 3 years in a social nudist (both sexes) camp. I also became a Stephen Minister (trained counselor) while down here. Married twice (the last to an Argentine) widowed once, no children, one cat. Corbin M. Online Dating - The First Meeting Tips To Impress

Monday, December 17th, 2007

By Kelly Price So you have found your person, and have decided on to meet. This is a really important meeting. Online dating lets you find the person, but the first meeting will determine if anything comes of it. Here is a guide on what do to, how to act, where to go, and what to say on your first meeting. Deciding Where to Go on the First Meeting Depending on your conversations with the person you have found on the internet, the very best place for a first meeting is a coffee shop, during the day. You may be tempted to suggest something more, but if you have never seen the person, in person, and judged your mutual magnetism, its best to meet casually first. Meeting in a coffee shop during the day will remove any anxieties either of you have about the meeting. If there is nothing between you, after a cup of coffee and a polite conversation, you part. There is no injury to ego or pride. Make no expectations about the first meeting. Try to be as free and open minded as possible. Appearance at the First Meeting If you are coming from work, you will dress as you dress for work. If this is not acceptable, suggest a weekend meeting where you can dress as you wish. How you look is very important, and you wish to look your best, so decide in advance what you wear to make the best impression. If you are a woman and wish to make the best impression, wear make up sparingly as its day time. If you are a man, be neatly groomed, and make sure your nails are clean, and the rest of your as neat as possible. All girls are turned off by slobs. Conversation at the First Meeting Keep your conversation on the subjects you have been writing about. Do not monopolize the conversation either. Ask questions of the other person after you have had your say. Be interesting but not domineering. Be polite, and talk about something you know interests the other person. Asking questions is a very good idea, but keep them as impersonal as possible, and of a general nature. You will get also to know the other person in this way. When you are asked questions, try to be honest, as this is not the situation to brag or boast. That will get you nowhere, except rejected. Implications of Sex Dating after all, is leading to a relationship. This can be long or short term. If you understand the signals the other person is giving to you by their body language, or verbal implications, you can discuss sexual relations, but only in a casual manner. You will understand if you wish to, or the other person wishes this kind of conversation What to Avoid Here are some topics and actions to avoid on the first meeting Religion Politics Prejudicial Issues (race, masculine-feminine difference) Topics you know the other person is sensitive about Previous relationships Previous illnesses The point of the first meeting is to determine if there will be others. We wish you good luck, and who know, you just may have met the person of your dreams. Saturday, December 15th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gabriel_J._Adams]Gabriel J. Adams If you are interested in pimping your cell phone there are plenty of ways you can do it that are easy as well as fun. Adding ringtones is probably the most common way to make your cell phone personally yours. You can choose from several that are preprogrammed into your computer or you can download them from your computer. If you really want to get detailed, set up ringback tones for each person who calls you on a regular basis. This way when your phone rings you can know who it is just by the song or that is playing. You can get them from your cell phone service provider or download them from the internet. Both ringtones and ringback tones usually cost from $.99 to $2.99 each. If you plan to purchase several of them, consider using an online site that allows you to download all you want for one set fee. This will save you money and you can download until your heart is content without thinking about the cost. Screensavers can help you pimp your cell phone as well. Since so many of them look alike these days, you can definitely determine yours from everyone elses by looking at the screensaver. You can choose one that is on your phone or download them from the computer. Some models of cell phones even allow you to download your own screensaver that is customized. You can use your favorite photo and add it to your phone. Pimping your cell phone is very easy and it is fun. This is the easiest way to personalize it to reflect your likes and your personality. If you are interested in finding out all the ways you can make it your own, ask your cell phone provider or surf the internet for great add-ons to make your cell phone cooler than ever. How You Can Get Over A Setback

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Dr. Ryan Even If you have suffered a setback in your business, it can be tough to get back on the proverbial horse. You may have lost confidence in yourself and your abilities. However, the longer you wait to start working once more, the harder it will be to get going again. The following are some tips to help you overcome a setback. Stay StructuredA structured schedule can serve as both a reminder and motivator. As the old saying goes plan your work and work your plan. Keep LearningLearning new skills can help motivate you. You may choose to take a class that will further develop skills you already have or learn something new entirely. You can participate in formal classes at your local college, listen to conference calls and teleclasses, or simply buy a business-related book at the bookstore. Hire a Business CoachA business coach can help you evaluate your business, as well as your strengths and weaknesses. They can help you formulate a plan to get back into action and provide motivation to help you succeed. Outsource TasksIf there is a particular task that you do not enjoy and you find it becoming a hindrance to your business (for instance, you procrastinate instead of getting the job done), outsource the task to someone else. The task will be completed and you can move on to work you enjoy. Mix Up Your Work EnvironmentMixing up your work environment can energize you and breathe new life into your business. For instance, if you tend to work exclusively online with clients, try finding some local ones to work with. Joint VenturesTeaming up with someone on a joint venture can also be a great way to get over a setback. You will be able to dive back into a project, but will have another person to share the work with. This can help alleviate any pressure you feel about your tasks. Having a partner to bounce ideas off and brainstorm with can add a fun element to your business. Use Your Strengths If you constantly work at activities that you dont feel you do particularly well, you may end up feeling challenged and unsuccessful. People tend to enjoy doing tasks they are good at. Think about what your strengths are, and use those skills in your business. It will make your work a lot more enjoyable. Treat Yourself WellIt may take some time to get over your setback. Give yourself time to get back into the swing of things. You do not have to be an overnight success. Hair Brushes-More Than You Ever Wanted To Know

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Gregg Hall A friend once asked me back when I had hair, “How do you know which hair brush is the right one for you?” I never really thought about it. Over the years I’ve tried several types of brushes, combs and such and just simply stuck with what felt good on my scalp and left my hair looking and feeling healthy, but not frizzy. So I thought I would check it out and see for myself which commonly available hairbrushes offer the best protection and the most ease of use. In order to carry healthy, manageable hair throughout your life, you need to learn and practice the following tips early in life and never forget them. The main goal is to protect and prevent your hair from being damaged. Brush and comb your hair as infrequently and as gently as possible (Your fingers will do the trick). Do not use a brush on your hair when it is wet and start with a wide-toothed comb first. Be sure not to over-brush dry hair. Never twist, tousle or wring your hair dry in a towel, but instead squeeze it dry gently using your hands. If your hair maintains a lot of static, it could be due to dry weather, dry indoor air or a fine hair type. However, you can also get static if your brush has plastic bristles or tines. In this instance, switch to a natural bristle brush or mist hair spray on the brush and restyle. Handle your hair as little as possible. Avoid direct sun exposure and don’t over do coloring or perms. Now choose your brushes carefully. As I have found over my years of brush use, all hairbrushes are not the created the same. Some are best for styling; others are ideal for creating smoothness or curvy waves. A lot of brushes are available for specific purposes. Once you find out what your needs are for your hair length, texture and style then you are on track. Check to see which type of brush your stylist uses. If you like it, buy it. This selection could change if you decide a short cut is more your style. Here are some examples: The Paddle Brush This brush is flat, wide and is best for brushing out long hair and creating straight, smooth styles. It can also give you a mini scalp massage. Because of its shape and size this brush should not be used to brush layers. It will never add volume, which is what layers are for. The Cushion Style Brush This brush is for medium-length hair that is naturally smooth or straight. The flat bock reinforces the hair’s sleekness. These brushes will make the most of box shaped bob’s, the graduated cut and a disconnected outline. It’s called the bi-level cut. Sculpting Brushes These brushes are great for adding volume to short, textured styles that need some movement. They are great for backcombing. The best hairstyles for these brushes include short cuts, round layers and texture outlines like razor perimeters and choppy ends. Thermal Round Brushes These brushes can be found in all sizes, including small, medium, large and jumbo-sized barrels. When used with the heat of a blow dryer, the smaller brushes act like rollers and create curl. The larger ones smooth out locks and add body. This is a favorite among professionals. The metal core heats up, shaping the hair from the inside out. Some good thermal brushes are Beautee Sense and Olivia Garden. Thermal Flat Brush This brush acts like a flat iron, smoothing and straitening the hair when used with the heat of a blow dryer, thus leaving it with not bend or lift. Whichever brush you use, hold the hair taut with the brush to create tension. This stretches the hair so it can form the new shape. It also adds shine and polish to your look. In closing, be sure to look for brushes that have ball tips that are molded as part of the bristle. Ball tips that are glued or otherwise attached can pull hair and damage it. Good brushes are an investment; if they are good quality and well cared for, they should last for years and your hair will be much healthier because of the extra attention you have given to selecting the proper brushes. The Dating Principle - It’s All About Packaging

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Tiv Armstrong Image + Confidence + Attraction = SEX APPEAL = MORE DATES! The way we dress and present ourselves may not make the man or woman, but there is no denying that it has a big influence on how people regard us and judge our SEX APPEAL. Life is not fair in the dating world. Even if most of us are born with a sense of what we should wear and say, a lifetime of exposure to fashion advertising, past relationships and advice from friends and family leaves many of us confused. IMAGE that counts - Preparation The random changes in pushed by today’s society can make the whole dating process even more bewildering. That confusion costs money - a lot of it. Actually canvassing, preparing and dating costs money. When not done right, it can run into hundreds if not thousands of dollars with no end in sight. Dressing inappropriately or body language can give off negative or inaccurate impressions and can cost a person a good chance at securing a second date and more. Yes, it is all about presentation. A sloppy appearance even to a social outing with friends can prevent prospective introductions to the opposite sex even if you have a great sense of humour and personality plus. In most social outings, the first impressions regrettably are that appearances are more important than talent, character or personality. However if you want to make that all important positive first impression and attracting the right people to you then a little bit of self investment can work wonders. Remember life is not fair in the dating world, and if you’re not treating yourself well then your chances maybe lost to others who present a positive image of themselves. While you may not see it as a priority, your competition is out there buying new outfits every week, looking their best and attracting gorgeous people. First impressions are difficult to change. Presenting a negative impression to others can adversely affect your chances of finding your ideal partner. They may draw the wrong conclusion about your presentation because of a dowdy appearance. In some ways this could affect a person’s credibility, such is this cruel world. So be a master of self-expressive-love, and treat yourself well. For CONFIDENCE - Self Esteem Your image of what you portray both inside and out will reflect on your confidence and thus self esteem. Image and self esteem are closely aligned. Little do we know that image, your external package always must start from the inside. What am I talking about? Getting to know yourself better, believe in yourself and be comfortable with who you are and what strengths you have to give to a relationship. What flourishes within often shines on the outside. People eyeing you up will notice this. Confidence is an individual thing. The dating world can be fickle. Confidence is about being comfortable in your true self and accepting all the unique qualities you have. Confidence in what you truly desire in a partner looks easy but in essence it’s tricky. Being confident in who you are, background, your history, forgiving yourself for past mistakes can enable you to accept yourself and what you truly desire in a potential partner. Knowing this can allow you to gather quick information on prospects, instead of going from date to date and not really knowing whom your dating or why you’re doing so. With this new found confidence in yourself and what you want, you will be able to; * Identify enough positive traits to encourage you spending more time getting to know them in a dating situation so you can determine their potential for a successful long-term relationship. * Differentiate a potential “friend” from a potential “mate.” (A potential friend or a casual acquaintance will lack the qualities necessary for deep and lasting romance.) * Spot serious flaws, warning signs, and conditions in others that justify that this relationship will not go no further. For ATTRACTION - to lure your potential partners Dressing for an occasion is correctly only half the battle. There is a saying that goes like this; “clothes make the man or woman.” But we can extend on this and add to it by saying “clothes make the man or woman, but manners makes a gentlemen or lady!” Impressions are not based on clothing alone; a person’s body language, speech habits, manners and demeanour complete the external packaging which others see. If a person dresses superbly but mumbles or fiddles incessantly during a date while looking at the ground is no better than that of a person wearing a tracksuit to a formal dinner. We humans are unique in what subconsciously attracts you to another and others to you, yet we are predominantly attracted to confident positive people. Generally these desirable quality traits are; * Good Communication Skills - personality and character* Dress sense and self respect - treating yourself well* Lifestyle and Interests * Physical Chemistry * Geography * Parental Influences * Educational Influences * Past Relationship History and Closure History There are times in our lives where we can lose one, two or all of these dating principles. People, society, culture, trends, environment and ourselves can take these away. Ultimately though these are passing phases. We grow, adapt, mature and learn. If we can do one thing for ourselves in the dating game, then that is to learn about our own dating principles in an honest way and then go about doing something to improve them. Feel good about yourself and someone will feel good about you. Sony Ericsson K610i : The Balanced Performer

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Carly_Charu]Carly Charu The Sony Ericsson K61Oi comes as a replacement for the K600 series and complements the company’s strategy of incrementally improving its existing models. Weighing a meager 92 grams, the K610i is one the lightest 3G phone to date. But within its sleek dimension the phone hosts a multitude of cutting-edge features. The design aesthetics of the K610i is fashionable yet austere and the ‘Urban Red’ and ‘Evening Silver’ colour schemes are visually appealing. The K610i comes with a 2 megapixel digital camera with a 262 K colour display and secondary camera for video calling. The absence of an auto-focus reduces the overall potential of the camera but the picture quality is impeccable. In comparison to the Walkman series phones the integrated music player on the K610i is pretty ordinary and the audio quality is nothing to write home about. The omission of earphones, paltry memory and limited music controls cripple the handset’s music playing capabilities. On the connectivity front though the K610i scores high. This tri-band GSM handset delivers high speed connectivity and caters to most communication needs. 3G, UMTS, GPRS all modes of communication are included in it’s profile. There’s Bluetooth, Modem and USB support for easy and convenient file and data transference. Push email functionality and PC synchronization ensures that you can optimize your work on the go. You can update yourself on news, weather and other reports through RSS feeds. The K610i is designed to bring 3G technology to the masses and is one of the best mid segment handset to do so. The feature set is impressive and calling and messaging options are plenty. What is most impressive about the K610i is the performance of its camera. The imaging quality is superior to most of its near rivals. For Signs and Seasons

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

By Ken Paone The heavens, according to Psalmist and Prophet King David, declare the glory of God. (Ps 19:1) Our own sun and its celestial entourage constitute an amazing piece of machinery whose order and unfailing precision certainly make one think of intelligent design over random stellar evolution. As far back as Genesis chapter 1, the sun, moon, and stars were given the role of a celestial timepiece to be for signs, seasons, days, and years. In other words, they have a practical function other than inspiring awe in humankind. The practical purpose of the sun and moon are well known. God obviously intended the sun to provide us with the heat, light, and food necessary to sustain life on earth in addition to providing those beautiful sunsets. Beside inspiring lovers to stroll beneath its silvery beams, the moon, of course, controls the oceans tides as well as regulating the rhythms of certain life forms. Now it would stand to reason that the other heavenly bodies of our solar system have some practical function as well. Many brilliant minds throughout history have equated terrestrial weather patterns with celestial phenomena. Johannes Kepler, the 17th century astronomer and discoverer of the planetary laws of motion, first achieved fame due to his long-range weather forecasts based on planetary positions. Since planetary phenomena can be calculated years in advance, their effect on weather patterns can be known long before conventional meteorological forecasts can detect them. It never ceases to amaze me how the Creator included in his handiwork a built-in and environmentally safe weather forecast system for our benefit. Good thinking! Ken Paone has been working with Kepler’s long-range weather forecasting method for about 14 years. His published forecasts have appeared internationally. You can email Ken at kensweather@msn.com.
